Building A Garden Teepee
Supplies:
pole bean seeds (soak in water overnight before planting)
3-6 Six foot long bamboo stakes (you can purchase these at Lowe's)
2 feet of strong twine
straw
a 6 sq. ft planting area
- You can begin this project approximately 2-3 weeks after the final frost.
- Begin by placing the stakes into the ground in a circle pattern. Place the stakes about 10 inches from the planting area edge, and be sure to leave a 2 feet wide space between two of the stakes; this will be the entrance into the teepee.
- Gather the tops of the stakes, wrap and tie with the twine.
- Plant the bean seeds according to the packet directions in a circle around the outside base of the teepee.
- Thoroughly water the seeds.
- Place a 2-3 inch layer of straw inside the teepee . This will make a nice floor for the teepee, and will help control weeds.
As the beans grow, manipulate and tie them around the bamboo stakes, In 6-8 weeks, they will cover the structure, and you will have your very own living teepee.
